Kathleen A. Cagney


CHICAGO -- The National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago named Kathleen (Kate) A. Cagney as a senior fellow.  The title recognizes the recipient's national reputation in a specific discipline and contributions to the organization's high-quality social science research.


Cagney directs NORC's Population Research Center, which facilitates population research by economists, sociologists, psychologists, public policy scientists, and scientists in other disciplines such as social services administration and medicine. 


Her special research interests include neighborhood effects and health, race and ethnic differences in access to health care and long-term care, life course approaches to research in health, and health status assessment.


Cagney also is an Associate Professor of Health Services Research at the University of Chicago in its Departments of Health Studies, Comparative Human Development, and Sociology.  She holds a PhD in Health Services Research from Johns Hopkins University, a Master's Degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago, and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Political Science from Western Michigan University.
